RICARDO URDANETA. Founding Partner. J.D. from Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Master in International Economics and Management, S.D.A.- Bocconi, Milan; specializes in international transaction law, contract management and international arbitration, with emphasis on the area of construction and engineering law, and in venture capital and private equity.

In the year 2000 he was a founding partner of Urdaneta, Vélez, Pearl & Abdallah Abogados, where he practiced until February 2005, when he was appointed lead attorney at the legal and corporate affairs department of Microsoft’s subsidiary for Colombia, Venezuela, Perú and Ecuador. He stayed at Microsoft until June 2007.

Amongst his clients are most major Colombian engineering firms, whom he has advised on transactions in Colombia and abroad, and heavy equipment vendors from the U.S., all of whom he assists on contract negotiation and management, as well as handling of claims when necessary. In this context he has represented his clients in successful international arbitration proceedings under ICC rules.

He has held different positions in the private and public sectors, such as consultant to the National Coffee Growers Federation and the Nacional Planning Department, and advisor of the Finance and Administrative Direction of Petroquímica Colombiana S.A. (PETCO).

Dr. Urdaneta is a member of list of arbitrators of the Center for Conciliation and Arbitration of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, and is a professor of International Contracts and International Arbitration in the specialization programs of Universidad del Rosario.

Among his publications we note: "Algunos Comentarios sobre la ley 38 de 1989 y el decreto reglamentario 3077 de 1990" (“Comments on Law 38 of 1989 and its Regulatory Decree 3077 of 1990”), for the magazine Revista de Derecho Económico, 1990.
